Nebula — naked-eye deep-sky object. Distance 414 pc. Integrated V ≈ 4.0. Extent: 65′ (classical catalogued apparent extent (~65′ across)) ≈ 3.9 pc radius at the published distance. The nearest massive star-forming region, a naked-eye glow in Orion's sword. Distance 414 ± 7 pc by VLBI parallax of its member stars [Menten et al. 2007].
