KBC Void (local under-density)

KBC Void (local under-density) is catalogued in this registry as a structure, held in the frame of CMB Rest Frame, from Large-scale structures (curated).

Registry id LSS_KBC_VOID · source layer largescale · provenance PROCESSED — derived deterministically from source catalogues (unit, frame and epoch conversions, cross-source reconciliation) — no value invented

Open KBC Void (local under-density) in the live scene → The scene composes a position for any date and is where a figure becomes a picture. It downloads the whole catalogue first: measured against the built product, an object outside the core resolves after about 16 s over a local network and about 147 s over a 4 Mbit link, having transferred roughly 70 MB. If you cannot wait that long, this page is the answer.

The catalogue's own note

Large-scale structure — void. placed at the origin (we are inside it). Anchor: centred approximately on the local volume — we are inside it (placed at the origin). Extent: "a ~300 Mpc scale under-density in the local galaxy distribution" (the paper's title, verbatim). The Keenan–Barger–Cowie under-density: K-band galaxy counts show the local universe (z < 0.07) under-dense relative to z > 0.1 by a factor ~1.5 in luminosity density. [Keenan et al. 2013]

What this registry does not know about it

These are absences in the catalogues aggregated here, not measurements of zero, and not statements that the quantity is unknown to science:

Coverage14 landmark structures above the galaxy-cluster scale — superclusters (Laniakea · Virgo/Local · Shapley · Perseus-Pisces · Pisces-Cetus complex), walls (CfA2 · Sloan · South Pole · the contested Hercules-Corona Borealis, shown with its published rebuttal), voids (Boötes · Local · KBC) + the Great Attractor and the Huge-LQG. Distances from z/cz are MODELLED through the flat-ΛCDM door (Planck 2018) and labelled; cosmological recession is the expansion of space, not motion through space — no drift is modelled
