Laniakea Supercluster

Laniakea Supercluster is catalogued in this registry as a structure, held in the frame of CMB Rest Frame, from Large-scale structures (curated).

Registry id LSS_LANIAKEA · source layer largescale · provenance PROCESSED — derived deterministically from source catalogues (unit, frame and epoch conversions, cross-source reconciliation) — no value invented

Open Laniakea Supercluster in the live scene → The scene composes a position for any date and is where a figure becomes a picture. It downloads the whole catalogue first: measured against the built product, an object outside the core resolves after about 16 s over a local network and about 147 s over a 4 Mbit link, having transferred roughly 70 MB. If you cannot wait that long, this page is the answer.

Each row carries its own uncertainty and its own source. Where a row says no uncertainty is published, that is what the catalogue says — it is not a claim that the value is exact.

The catalogue's own note

Large-scale structure — supercluster. z = 0.01628; comoving distance MODELLED from z (flat ΛCDM, Planck 2018: H0 67.7, Ωm 0.31) → ~72 Mpc — a comoving distance is where the object sits NOW in the model, not how far its light travelled, so dividing it by c does not give a light-travel time. Anchor: the Norma cluster (ACO 3627, SIMBAD position + redshift) — the paper: "local flows within the region converge toward the Norma and Centaurus clusters in good approximation to the location of what has been called the 'Great Attractor'". Extent: "a diameter 12,000 km/s or 160 Mpc" encompassing "~1×10¹⁷ M☉" (verbatim). Our home basin of attraction: the peculiar-velocity watershed within which flows converge inward — the definition of a supercluster proposed with the name (Hawaiian: "immeasurable heaven"). Includes the Local (Virgo) Supercluster as one lobe. [Tully et al. 2014]

What this registry does not know about it

These are absences in the catalogues aggregated here, not measurements of zero, and not statements that the quantity is unknown to science:

Coverage14 landmark structures above the galaxy-cluster scale — superclusters (Laniakea · Virgo/Local · Shapley · Perseus-Pisces · Pisces-Cetus complex), walls (CfA2 · Sloan · South Pole · the contested Hercules-Corona Borealis, shown with its published rebuttal), voids (Boötes · Local · KBC) + the Great Attractor and the Huge-LQG. Distances from z/cz are MODELLED through the flat-ΛCDM door (Planck 2018) and labelled; cosmological recession is the expansion of space, not motion through space — no drift is modelled
