Local Void

Local Void is catalogued in this registry as a structure, held in the frame of CMB Rest Frame, from Large-scale structures (curated).

Registry id LSS_LOCAL_VOID · source layer largescale · provenance PROCESSED — derived deterministically from source catalogues (unit, frame and epoch conversions, cross-source reconciliation) — no value invented

Open Local Void in the live scene → The scene composes a position for any date and is where a figure becomes a picture. It downloads the whole catalogue first: measured against the built product, an object outside the core resolves after about 16 s over a local network and about 147 s over a 4 Mbit link, having transferred roughly 70 MB. If you cannot wait that long, this page is the answer.

The catalogue's own note

Large-scale structure — void. cited distance 23 Mpc. Anchor: SIMBAD centroid (toward Aquila); distance = the cited LOWER BOUND — "the distance to the center of the Local Void must be at least 23 Mpc" [Tully et al. 2008, verbatim] (placed at that bound). Extent: bounded by the Perseus-Pisces and Norma-Pavo-Indus filaments, 8,500 km/s apart [Tully et al. 2019]. The vast empty region adjoining the Local Group: its expansion pushes us away at 200-250 km/s (about half our CMB-frame motion, with the Virgo attraction). Largely hidden behind the zone of obscuration. [Tully et al. 2019; Tully et al. 2008]

These are absences in the catalogues aggregated here, not measurements of zero, and not statements that the quantity is unknown to science:

Coverage14 landmark structures above the galaxy-cluster scale — superclusters (Laniakea · Virgo/Local · Shapley · Perseus-Pisces · Pisces-Cetus complex), walls (CfA2 · Sloan · South Pole · the contested Hercules-Corona Borealis, shown with its published rebuttal), voids (Boötes · Local · KBC) + the Great Attractor and the Huge-LQG. Distances from z/cz are MODELLED through the flat-ΛCDM door (Planck 2018) and labelled; cosmological recession is the expansion of space, not motion through space — no drift is modelled
